Innovative Expansion of Brown County Jail: A Strategic Approach to Future Growth

In 2018, Brown County engaged Venture Architects to provide comprehensive architectural and engineering design services for an ambitious jail expansion and a new Medical Examiner’s Office at the Brown County Detention Center. This project significantly enhances the facility’s capacity and service delivery.

The expansion includes a modern two-story indirect housing pod with 128 beds, accommodating minimum, medium, and maximum-security inmates. This design not only addresses current needs but also strategically allows for a mirrored pod to be added to the south, facilitating future growth.

The project also involved remodeling the existing Detention Center to add special needs and detox beds, ensuring comprehensive care and security for all inmate populations. This integration of new and existing structures reflects Brown County’s commitment to efficient corrections management.

The new pod features program spaces, offices, and indoor recreation facilities on both floors, supporting a holistic approach to inmate rehabilitation. It also includes accessible professional visiting areas and an outdoor emergency evacuation zone, underscoring a focus on safety and accessibility.

Venture Architects has equipped Brown County with a robust framework for current operations and future expansion, allowing the facility to adapt and meet the community’s evolving needs effectively.
