Venture was tasked with transforming two existing spaces in the Rock County Courthouse into functional, non-juried court commissioner rooms, while ensuring closer proximity to public access. Compliance with necessary exiting and security requirements was also a key consideration.
The two rooms to be converted were a former law library and a former vault, each presenting unique challenges due to their varying structure heights and adjacent spaces. The law library featured a wall of windows, while the vault had none, creating different lighting conditions in each room.
To address these challenges, ceiling heights were designed to maximize the available daylighting in the law library and provide aesthetic interest in the vault. Both spaces were designed with the same layouts and finishes to maintain consistency and create continuity.
In addition to the new commissioner rooms, the District’s Attorney space was renovated to upgrade the outdated space and optimize flow. The renovation also included a complete overhaul of the mechanical unit to modernize the area and improve its functionality.
