Wood County engaged Venture Architects to design a new sheriff’s office and jail to replace their existing facility, which was no longer supporting the county’s needs.
One of the biggest design challenges in this project is that the new facility is connected to the existing courthouse. We were faced with variations in floor and site elevations as well as other site constraints. Solutions for these challenges included integrating a series of swales and catch basins for storm drainage, as well as ramps to assist with floor elevation level alignment. The programming also required copious space to ensure maximum efficiency, which necessitated a four-story facility in addition to vacating the adjacent street.
The facility will house the new sheriff’s office, sheriff’s vehicle garage, new jail and receiving for the government center and county multi-purpose room for county meetings. Additionally, there will be a new single point of entry for the government center.
The project is expected to be completed August 2025.
